NPR : in the past 10 years,
crime is down 20%,
murder down even more, and non-OJ news stories about murder were up 600%. Because of this, most people see an increase in crime. He went on to talk about statistically trivial things that pop up in the news like
road rage or
internet addiction, and how the media made things seem worse than it was, feeding a general
culture of fear...
The stats may or may not be accurate, but this makes sense to me.
