Viewed from a hotel lobby

20 feet of plate glass window

It is a few moments before dawn

a dark grey sky is fading

replaced by a softer

                                                Blue

reflected off a line of skyscrapers

a shade lighter than the river next to it

darker than several blocks of a parallel walkway

Soon, the sun will rise

a soft yellow first then

other colours will appear

                                                But not yet

I have this moment

a few minutes at best,

when the city pauses midstep, bathed in a single color

halfway between night and new day
