Βατων

The chariot-driver of Amphiaraus, the Theban hero. He, like Amphiaraus, was also descended from Melampus. Fighting before Thebes, Baton shared the fate of his master and was swallowed up by the earth just as Amphiaraus was about to be struck by an enemy. He was given divine honours. A different tradition claims that Baton withdrew to a town in Illyria called Harpeia after the death of Amphiaraus.
