Sugar Pie
An Indiana favorite!

2 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. heavy cream
1.5 c. chopped black walnuts or golden pecans
pastry for a 9" pie

Line pie plate with pastry; flute, but don't prick the bottom... Bring the brown sugar and the cream to a boil together, then cook until thickened - about ten minutes. Stir in nuts, and let cool. Pour filling into pie crust, and then bake at 375 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Filling will set as it cools. Serve slices heaped with whipped cream and more chopped nuts. Sweet, sweet heart attack on a plate...

Honey Bunch
Also known as lekach in Yiddish

Over low heat, combine:

1.5 c. dark honey
3.4 c. vegetable oil
1 c. good coffee
2 t. vanilla

Let cool.

While waiting, whisk together:

3.75 c. flour
1.5 t. baking soda
1 t. baking powder
2 t. ground cinnamon
.5 t. ground ginger

Now beat 3 large eggs and 3/4 c. sugar into the honey mixture, and then fold into the dry ingredients. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Prick holes all over the cake with a fork, and brush or pour hot honey over the top of the cake. Let cool completely before cutting.
