Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns is probably the most technically advanced of all the Atari 2600 games ever written. It features an extremely large, well designed scrolling cavern with well-animated creatures and colorful backdrops.

Pitfall II was written by David Crane of Activision. He incorporated a separate sound chip into the cart, which is used to generate the extremely catchy game music. It is the only 2600 game that utilized this sound chip. As a result, 2600 emulators have to emulate this chip specifically for the game.

The Atari 5200 version of Pitfall II features an additional level.
