Duke is
Sun Microsystems (we put the "Arrr" in SparcStations)
mascot for
Java and related technologies. He is a black and white
triangle with a red nose, no eyes and wierd, insectlike arms.
What most people don't know is that Duke is lifted wholesale from a 1950's
Disney cartoon (starring
Goofy) called "
Cold War", in which our
dog-headed-man hero fight the
anthropomorphosized version of the
influenza virus (Duke, or Duke's granddad, perhaps). If any of you have
cable or know where old
showreels or compilation videos of
Disney shorts can be acquired, you can see this for yourself. It would probably piss
Sun off, though, having fought off
Microsoft's attempts to break
Java for five years only to have
Disney bust their asses!
