Aelfwald

King of East Anglia 713-749

This Aelfwald was a ruler of the East Angles who succeeded his father Ealdwulf as king in the year 713. A letter that Aelfwald wrote to Saint Boniface has survived and this is almost the only record that remains of an otherwise shadowy and distant figure.

He was the last of the noble Wuffing dynasty to rule in East Anglia. After the death of Aelfwald the kingdom was divided between three rivals Hun, Beonna and Alberht.
