"Creative uses for Spam," said the help wanted ad.
I definitely had no idea what I was getting into that day, but I needed the work. My mother had fallen ill and was let go from her master's house, and now it was up to me to provide for the family.
I walked into the restaurant and was greeted loudly by the chef - not in a particularly friendly or unfriendly way, just a loud way. "Are you here for the job?" he asked.
"Yessir, if you will have me," I replied.
He sat me down and threw an oily menu at me. "Tell me what you think," he said.
I looked it over. "Sir, everything on here has Spam in it."
"Yes indeed, that's what the notice said didn't it?"
"Yessir, but don't you think customers would want something without Spam?"
"Look, do you want the job or not?"
