The official NCAA Division III nickname for sports teams at Carnegie Mellon University. The Carnegie Mellon Tartans play against such imposing opponents as the New York University Violets and the University of Chicago Maroons in the University Athletic Association (UAA) conference.

The Carnegie Mellon official school newspaper is named The Tartan, and is published most weeks throughout the school year. It includes campus news, editorials (mostly from whiny, underappreciated humanities majors), sports, and an arts and leisure section. Very useful if you like your Dilbert seven strips at a time.
