North Korea, the Ryugyong Hotel, or the "105 buidling" as it is called, is quite possibly the most ominous building in the world.
The structure of the "hotel" is composed of three colossal triangles, the tallest standing 300 meters (985 feet) tall, with 105 stories, hence the name. It is the 20th
tallest building in the world.
Construction of the hotel began in 1987, but was stopped in 1991 for unknown reasons, and the hotel has stood as a towering concrete shell ever since. Despite the humorously misinformed recommendations of several
travel services, you probably wouldn't want to stay there. Although the
Korean government apparently alters postcards to display the building lit up at night, like much of Pyongyang the hotel has no electricity, or windows. The Ryugyong hotel stands as a dark obelisk blotting out the sky and marring the model city vision of North Korea's capital.
