A screever is a guy who draws pictures on the pavement for money. Often these will be reproductions of famous paintings in luridly coloured chalk. Some write poems.

There was a psychotic screever who worked at the bottom of Charing Cross Road throughout the 1990s. Monkey was his name. He used to draw grotesque scenes, torture and murder and suicide and the like. Classic pieces of outsider art.

Dick van Dyke’s character in Mary Poppins is a screever on his first appearance, though he becomes a sweep later on.
