It was on outlaw journalist Hunter S. Thompson's official platform when he ran for sheriff of Aspen in 1971 to change the name of Aspen, Colorado, by public referendum, to Fat City. That way, all the maps would have to be changed, the tax forms, the interstate highway signs. Then all the "greedheads," as Thompson called them, who came to Aspen not because it was a nice place to live but because it had a brand name, would have to change "Aspen Ski Wear" and the like to "Fat City Ski Wear."

Thompson the sheriff would have no sympathy for such clowns, whom he said deserved to be "fucked, broken, and driven across the land."
