An announcement often heard at London tube stations, warning passengers to be aware that due to the curvature of the platform there may be a gap between the platform edge and the train carriage when the doors open. For reasons that are completely inexplicable to me as a Londoner many tourists find this incredibly amusing and will continue to repeat these three words to each other before falling about in fits of giggles. However on a recent trip to New York City I was absolutely delighted to find myself at a subway station when the announcer declared that the next train would be the uptown express (a phrase that to me is something quintessentially New Yorkian) so I suppose it's horses for courses.
