- E. E. Cummings

This poem makes use of its structure, similar to l(a, as the strangely ordered letters create an excitement reminiscent of the bundled-up energy within a grasshopper about to leap. The "l/eA/!p:" is spread in an arc, much like the motion itself. As the grasshopper lands, it rearranges itself from its frenzied state back to "(be)(com)(e)" a calm grasshopper. The poem ends with a semicolon, signifying the grasshopper is ready for another jump at any moment.
