Automobile door design in which the doors are hinged on the roof of the car. Famously employed in the DeLorean, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe, and the Bricklin SV-1. In the DeLorean, the door was opened by a torsion bar embedded in the roof and supported by a hydraulic strut. The 300SL merely had two (much more sturdy) hydraulic struts to support the door.

Not to be confused with the scissor-style doors used on various models of Lamborghini and the McLaren F1.
