Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr., jazz vocalist and jazz pianist, bandleader, composer, and actor, was born September 11, 1967 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Three years after Connick first touched a piano at the age of 3, he was already performing publically.

In his teens, Connick attended the New Orleans Center for the Creative and was tutored by Ellis Marsalis and James Booker. Connick then attended Hunter College and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he was offered a contract by Columbia Records. His self-titled album was released in 1987.

Following the release his second album, 20, in 1988, director Rob Reiner approached Connick and asked him to compose the soundtrack to his upcoming film, When Harry Met Sally. Featuring Connick's jazz trio and big band, the soundtrack was released in 1989 eventually went multiplatinum.

Connick's role in the 1990 film Memphis Belle marked the beginning of his acting career. Since then, Connick has starred such films as Copycat (1995), Independence Day (1996), Hope Floats (1998), and The Iron Giant (1999).

Since the release of Music From The Motion Picture When Harry Met Sally..., Connick has experimented with composing and arranging and has led both a jazz trio and his famous big band. After dabbling in funk in the mid-1990s, Connick made a triumphant return to New Orleans-influenced big band jazz with his 1999 release, Come By Me.

Connick and his wife, former Victoria's Secret model Jill Goodacre, have two children, Georgia Tatom and Sara Kate.
