Also seen in Star Trek on the bridge of the U.S.S. Excelsior on her commissioning plaque.

All of the bridge sets for the ships in Star Trek have a commissioning plaque. Included on the plaque are little bits of wisdom. It is one of the more lighthearted traditions the creators of Star Trek follow.

Some of them include:

U.S.S. Brittain - "... A Three hour tour, a three hour tour"

U.S.S. Dauntless - "Hope is but a waking dream" -Aristotle

U.S.S. Defiant - "All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by" -John Masefield

U.S.S. Enterprise - "To boldly go where no one has gone before"

U.S.S. Cousteau - "The future is in the hands of those who explore ... and from all the beauty they discover while crossing perpetually receding frontiers, they develop for nature and for humankind and infinate love." -Capt. Jacques-Yves Cousteau

U.S.S. Prometheus - "All the World's a stage and all the men and women merely players, they have their exits and their entrances and one man in his life plays many parts, his act being seven stages... " -William Shakespeare

U.S.S. Sao Paulo - "Give me liberty or give me death..." -Patrick Henry

U.S.S. Sutherland - "There will be an answer, let it be" -Paul McCartney

U.S.S. Valiant - "We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained and new rights to be won." -John F. Kennedy

U.S.S. Voyager - "For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see; Saw the Vision of the World, and all the wonder that could be..." -Alfred Tennyson
