Aloe barbadensis

Possibly came from Cape Verde Islands, and spread by cultivation in early times. It was probably the aloe used to embalm the body of Christ (John 19:39). Pliny cited the external use of the fresh juice to heal wounds, bruises, and irritations, and as an extract taken as a tonic, purgative, and jaundice remedy. Fresh juice does have the ability to heal damaged tissue and is used as a salve for the treatment of radiation burns and minor wounds and burns.
