This is the oldest section of Seattle, located south of Pike Place Market and near where the old Kingdome was. This is where the term "Skid Row" comes from, named after the way timber was slid down Yesler Way to the waterfront. It is also home of Smith Tower, which was the tallest building west of the Mississippi, when it was built, in 1914

After years of disrepair, the area has been revitalized. At night, it is a center of night life. For one cover (varies by night, but usually around $10), you are granted access to about 10 or 12 bars, ranging from jazz to techno. So, there is something for everyone.
