A book by David Friedman which argues that most everything government does can be done better privately. Friedman argues that police forces, for instance, could be replaces with private for-profit protection agencies. He spends a large portion of the&book arguing why, contrary to popular opinion, this would not result in the war of all against all imagined by Hobbes, but would produce a stable and reasonably free social order. Influenced "The Ungoverned" by Vernor Vinge.
