Contrary to what many people
think, the
Anti-lock Braking System does
NOT improve the
efficiency of the braking (actually, the
opposite effect occurs on some
surfaces, like
gravel), but it allows the
driver to retain a certain amount of
steering ability even when braking fully.
Theoretically, a similar effect could be created on cars lacking ABS by furiously tapping the brakes, but doing it as well as the computer even when you're not in an emergency situation is impossible.
