• The First Crusade continues. Raymond of Saint-Gilles, count of Toulouse, establishes the fourth crusader state in the Holy Land when he captures the Syrian city of Tartus. Raymond also lays seige to Tripoli, which would eventually fall to the crusaders in 1109.
• El Cid's kingdom of Valencia falls to the Almoravids, and will remain in Moorish hands until 1238.
• Croatian tribal chiefs sign a pact with Hungarian king Coloman ceding Croatia to the Hungarian crown.
• Saewulf, an Anglo-Saxon monk from Malmesbury, undertakes a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. His vivid account of his travels will become a valuable historical source for information on the medieval Middle East.
• St. Anslem writes his spiritual meditation De Processione Spiritus Sancti, based on his speeches at Bari in 1098.
