"Clovis" is the name given to an early Native American material culture associated with a distinctive type of fluted spearhead used by early peoples to hunt mammoths. These spearheads were first found near Clovis, New Mexico. Clovis spearheads are found all over the United States and are usually dated to about 10,000 to 15,000 years ago, making Clovis culture among the oldest known in North America.
