In medical jargon, dopaminergic is an adjective that refers to just about anything having anything to do with the neurotransmitter dopamine. For example, drugs and endogenous ligands can be dopaminergic if they either trigger or suppress the release of dopamine, neurotransmitter receptors can be considered dopaminergic if they are excited by dopamine, and neurons, enzymes, and systems within the brain can be called dopaminergic if they are related to the production, uptake, or circulation of dopamine.
