As she snipped carefully
I felt the heat from her
with my elbow
even through the plastic shroud
that keeps the fallen
from falling on
my street clothes.

We talked of the oldies
playing on the radio
and places we'd been
at different times
with different views,
finding where the bumps and hollows
in our histories corresponded
enough to nestle.

And in the end
I looked at the mirror
with the mirror
and said the back of my neck looked good
after she'd spun the chair
and removed my collar.
