A
writer of
short stories. His first two collections are titled
Cold Snap and the highly recommended
The Pugilist at Rest, which was a finalist for the National Book Award.
Mr. Jones' writing is Hemingway-ish in its honesty and metallic hardness, but Jones is far more brutal. His topics are rife with war, sex, mental disease of varying degrees, epilepsy and other physical diseases, and boxing. His themes espouse a generally harsh and overtly pessimistic worldview.
Mr. Jones was a janitor at my high school. I'm proud.
