For ten days she was

in and out of this world

as I sat watching

the rise and fall

of her labored breath

The walls were green

lichen living on rock

her eyes when open

surprised to see me

eldest daughter

As she slowly improved

I heard her version

of my life, how happy

and lovely as if

nothing bad happened

Washing her white hair

I kept my thoughts

in my pockets

then painted her

fingernails pale pink

Death watch on hold

she wears six shades

of blue clashing

like storm clouds or
