The food dehydrator can be used to dry fruits, vegetables, meats (think beef jerky), basically anything you want. You can make your own trail snacks, fruit leathers, soup mix, etc.
I actually make a mean tofu jerky with ours.
Since there's actually a bit of heat involved, the food dehydrator slow cooks the food as it's drying it. So you can put raw meat in it and it will be cooked and dehydrated.
