British artist, born in London in 1964, graduated from Cambridge University in 1986. Often mentioned in conjunction with Damien Hirst as a founder of the British contemporary art movement.

Quinn achieved widespread recognition with his sculpture entitled 'Self' in 1991. 'Self' was a sculpture of Quinn's own head that he carved out of 4.5 litres of frozen blood mixed with antibiotics and anticoagulants. This blood was extracted over a five month period from Quinn's own body. 4.5 litres is approximately the volume of blood in a male of Quinn's age and build.
