Bushehr is the largest port in the northwest part of the Persian Gulf, in Iran. It has a population of around 180,000, and is connected to the mainland by tidal marshes. It is the capital of the Bushehr Province, and has both an outer port which is deep and an inner shallow port. The city's economy is based on fishing and commerce.

Bushehr's nuclear reactor program first instituted in the 1970s failed because of the Iran-Iraq War. However, in the 1995 the program resumed with assistance from Russia. The city has an airport, and there are highways connecting it to Ahvaz 700 km northwest and Shiraz 300 km northeast.
