Part conservatory, part improvisation dojo. A school in the Woodstock, New York area that lasted from 1971 to 1984. Karl Berger and Ornette Coleman founded it, and it was, in part, a translation of the free jazz milieu to a loose academic setting, but all-inclusive - all types of improvisation (classical and traditional musics from around the world) were part of the curriculum. One of the first of its kind.
