Erik Satie (1866-1925), a French composer. His early impressionist works influenced Claude Debussy, who later returned the favor by orchestrating Satie's Trois Gymnopédies, which itself was an abandonment of Satie's earlier style - this new, simpler "furniture music" was early ambient music, and ran against the grain of the ever-more-complex directives of European Art Music. He was the father of Les Six, and their biggest fan. After returning to school, he changed again: the noisemaking devices in his ballet Parade provided new vistas for future composers.
