A (nominally) Christian entertainer. At the beginning of the rock and roll era, he achieved fame for all the wrong reasons: he, and many other whitebread singers, did covers of rhythm and blues hits, in an attempt to keep the originals out of the Top 40 charts (the old kinescope of Boone doing Tutti Frutti is priceless).
Went on to an acting career. 1997: Did a big band album of metal classix and started wearing Rob Halford's old wardrobe, to "reach the kids for Jesus".
