A #1 song (US) for Joey Dee and the Starliters, the house band at a 45th
Street (Manhattan) ballroom called the Peppermint Lounge. The 45 was
released to capitalize on a dance craze called "The Twist", in which the Peppermint Lounge had become the Studio 54 posh-place-to-be for the glam, famous, and fab - which probably helped kill the craze. The Beatles came along, with a new mania for Merkins to fixate upon, and Dee returned from whence he came. One for the "15 Minutes of Fame" file.
