I bought a new
camera today, and then started thinking that what I really want is a camera to take pictures in my mind. Not just to see what I see, but to see what I can
imagine. I see the most beautiful
landscapes in my
dreams, and I'd like to be able to share them with others and remember them more clearly myself.
My most striking memory of this is a dream that I had once, where I was with my deceased father. The sun was setting, a fat red sun against a sky awash in pinks, oranges, and purples that formed bands across the sky. Everything on the earth was black, silhouetted against and fading in brilliance when compared to the glorious sky. Dad said to me, "You know, this is the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen."
I remembered this dream in such great detail, and it really shook me. It was one of those dreams where you know that there is something to it, something on a deeper level. I'm just glad that I was able to give my dad such a beautiful sight.
