A designated route for bicyclists to follow. A bike route can consist of streets with bike lanes, streets without bike lanes, and off-road bike paths or mixed-use paths. Of those streets without bike lanes that are designated bike routes, they are generally low-traffic, and often have the stop signs turned such that cross-traffic must stop while the bicyclist can carry on for many blocks without stopping. This can become problematic, however, as the priority given to the street can attract motor vehicle traffic, thus reducing the desirability for cyclists. If this happens, speed bumps can be added, as they cause much more discomfort for motorists than cyclists.
