Based on the booker prize nominated book, "The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith" by Thomas Keneally. The film was made in 1976 and is well summarised by the following:

"A stirring national epic about the oppression, explosion and flight of a half-caste aborigine in the year 1900. This great Australian film dramatizes the inability of the displaced Europeans at the turn of the century to understand the aborigines who live in the remnants of tribal society --A Visually impassioned epic." - Pauline Kael
