An American Tale is an animated musical film from Sullivan Bluth Studios and Amblin Entertainment, directed by Don Bluth in 1986. The story is about the Mouskewitzes, a family of Russian-Jewish mice, who are immigrating to America, which they believe to be a land without cats, but when they arrived to America the young boy Fievel is separated from his family and spends the rest of the film searching for them while dodging the cats and other dangers.

This film was one of the few non-Disney films which gathered a lot of notice during my childhood. A lot of the attention was due to the song "Somewhere Out There" which had a lot of radio play, and is still something that you can hear played now and then. The director, Don Bluth, was also known for the film The Secret of NIMH, which was also an animated film about mice.

There was a sequel called "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West"
