This is the ultimate conspiracy theory, since it is self-referential to the point of absurdity.
This is how it works:
As we all know, a conspiracy tends to lead back to some large, shadowy, cabalistic, government organisation. The Conspiracy conspiracy purports that these conspiracies are not in fact uncovered by goverment-hating nerds who need an axe to grind at bars. This, according to the theory, is actually a cover.
The government actually promotes these conspiracies (manipulating the media with shows such as The X-Files (which, in turn, promote further confusion by exposing conspiracies as covers for other conspiracies, then discrediting them) in order to keep us away from the truth, which is probably too frightening for anyone to want to comprehend.
