More recently, the original Lou Reed version of "Perfect Day" was used by the NFL during the 2000 football season in promotional spots that aired on television during the game broadcasts. The commercials intercut home movie-like scenes of parents playing football with their kids with NFL Films footage of plays that looked similar to the backyard version.

The effect was, of course, extremely sentimental and nostalgic and didn't make the viewer think about heroin at all.

These spots were part of a series of film set to music that also included Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors" and a re-lyriced version of Eminem's "My Name Is Joe."
