The web pages of http://www.afgha.com reported that Ahmed Shah Masood is alive but injured as of 9/13/01.
Deposed Afghan president Professor Rabbani told the BBC, "We have decided to immediately send Masood abroad for treatment. There is no danger to his life. Masood's legs are critically injured and there are also burn signs on his face. The explosion has badly affected his nerves (sic) system." Rabbani claims to have actually spoken with Masood since the suicide assassination attempt.

On September 15, 2001 Reuters reported that the legendary anti-Taliban guerrilla leader Ahmad Shah Masood died in an Afghan hospital from wounds suffered in a suicide bomb attack this week by two Arabs. Masood, who was born in 1953, was expected to be buried on Sunday in his native village in the Panjsher valley, his impregnable stronghold north of Kabul.
The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) reports that Ahmed Shah Masood's Northern Alliance is a radical Muslim fundamentalist organization fighting for control of Afghanistan. RAWA blames fundamentalists on both sides for killing, raping, and torturing innocents.
The United States Department of Justice says on its web pages about Afghanistan and the Northern Alliance, "The situation in Afghanistan has led to the indiscriminate bombardment of civilian areas by both Taliban and anti-Taliban forces. The Jamiat-e Islami faction, led by Ahmed Shah Masood and former President Rabbani, fired several rockets into Kabul in an effort to weaken the Taliban control over the airport. This attack, and those that followed, resulted in the deaths of many innocent civilians."
