A place designated for camping. Or, a place traditionally used for camping. Campgrounds are often found in national and state parks, forests and natural areas, but sometimes landowners operate campgrounds on private land.

Campgrounds which are places operated for the purpose of camping will often, but not always, have picnic tables, a place for a fire such as a firepit or grill, garbage cans and some sort of restroom facilities. Sometimes campgrounds have specific, numbered campsites, each with at minimum a nice place to pitch a tent, but maybe also a table and fire area. Usually there is a fee charged for overnight stay at a campground.
