jewelry finding, suitable for finishing a heavier piece, such as weighty
beads or thick
wire or
chain. At one end of the piece is a circle, at the other is a bar. The bar is threaded through the circle to keep the piece from falling off the wearer.
This works best for necklaces, where the piece can hang properly and gravity can keep the ends together. It is best not to use this type of clasp with precious metals or stones because it has a tendency to come undone and could get lost. The clasp is usually made of brass, plated nickel, gold or silver, though I have also seen some carved bone, ivory and wood.
