Emerson College is a private, coeducational university located in the heart of downtown
Boston, Massachusetts, and devoted exclusively to the fields of
communications and the visual and performing arts. The College was founded in
1880 by minister and noted
orator Charles Wesley Emerson as a "school of oratory."
As of 2011, Emerson College has an annual enrollment of 3,453 undergraduate and 837 graduate students.
As per its focus on communication and the arts, the entire College has only eight departments:
