Sound Of Silence Revisited
Tune: Sound Of Silence, Simon & Garfunkel
Hello
Usenet, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a
vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my
brain
Still remains
Within the sound of keystrokes.
In restless
dreams I search for more
Through endless posts of
wibble pure,
I comb the
noise that seems unending,
To find the
signal someone's sending
Till my eyes are raw and my head's beating like a
drum
But still I come
Back to the sound of
keystrokes.
And in the flick'ring light I saw
Ten million people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing thoughts that voices daren't
express
But they
confess
With just the sound of keystrokes.
"Fools" thought I, "You do not know
Deja like a
cancer grows.
Your words may yet come back to
haunt you,
Ten years from now they may still
taunt you"
But my thoughts just spiralled into space,
And
echoed
Off the face of keystrokes
And as the people
typed away
Throughout the
night and through the day.
I sensed that somehow I was losing,
All the posts I should be choosing.
And my mind said, "The words of the
prophets
Now are buried deep in
pointless threads
They can't be said."
Just clattered in the sounds of keystrokes.
