Considered a sort of poor man's sport, a sideshow (also called "sidin'") is an event where crowds gather around cars that spin donuts and burn rubber in a street or parking lot. These events are usually spontaneous, taking place at night on weekends and are accompanied by loud music and a cloud of toxic fumes hanging overhead. These are very common in Oakland, CA and police have responded by breaking up large gatherings of people in the poorer areas of the city, randomly stopping young people driving around and having cars towed on a whim. Police claim that these events are dangerous, although the only known injuries (and at least one death) have occurred while police were chasing people away from a sideshow.
