My father-in-law was the baker at Bob's Big Boy restaurant on Speedway, now JB's Family Restaurant,. He first met Bob Wian, the founder of Bob's Big Boy in Glendale, California in the 1950's.

The recipe is a fresh fruit pie, and is very similar to the fresh strawberry pies that are served at the Big Boy Restaurants.

Ingredients

1 Cup Water

3/4 Cup Sugar

1/4 Teaspoon Salt

2 Tablespoons Cornstarch

1/4 Teaspoon Red Food Coloring

1 Cup all-purpose Flour

1/2 Cup Margarine

3 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

1 3/4 Cups Fresh Strawberries, hulled

Directions

Mix together the water, white sugar, salt, cornstarch and food coloring and cook, stirring constantly, in a saucepan for about 5 minutes or until thickened. Set aside to cool.

Make the crust by combining flour, margarine, sugar and vanilla - press this into a deep 9 inch pie pan. Prick all over and bake at 350 degrees F until a light golden browned.

When crust is cool, place berries in the shell and pour the thickened mixture over the top.

Refrigerate.

Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

Enjoy!
