Joong Gun is the sixth pattern learnt for the ITF style of Tae Kwon Do, and it is therefore, along with all previous patterns, required for the seventh grading, promotion from blue belt (4th kup) to red tags (3rd kup).

The definition of the pattern is as follows: "Joong Gun is named after the patriot An Joong Gun who assassinated Hiro Bumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general of Korea. The 32 movements represent Mr An's age when he was executed at Lui-Shung prison in 1910."

Although this pattern has fewer movements than the previous pattern, it is far less repetitve and the majority of the techniques are new, so it is much more difficult to learn. The start and end position is also new: Close ready stance B. This pattern is also distinctive as it is the only pattern so far that does not start and end on the same mark, instead ending one walking stance behind the mark. The movements for the pattern, and its diagram, may be found at http://www.itf-information.com/sub0406.htm.
