Mount Fuji is the tallest mountain in
Japan.
It lies on both
Shizuoka and
Yamanashi prefectures.
Mountain climbing for
religious purposes have been frequent since ancient times by those who revere the sacred mountain.
The latest eruption which happened in
1707 created Mt. Houei (2,693m) at the middle of the south eastern slope of Mt. Fuji.
It is up to speculation whether Mt. Fuji is a
dormant volcano or an extinct mountain (whether or not the mountain would erupt again).
Much
state of the art weather and telecommunications equipment have been placed near the peak.
Height: 3,775.6m (12,387 ft.) and decreasing, due to wind and rain erosion.

Crater diameter: 800m
