Marching towards an inferno, they are drenched and sweating gasoline.

A passerby, knowing of the eventual destruction,

Would have thought of bravely arrayed Spartans:

Bound for defeat.

But none passed; the farmer was still in bed

And his mistress was alone under the dark.
